lineup that includes acts like Chaka Khan, Jeffrey Osborne, Peabo Bryson and Fredide Jackson, the eighth annual West Oak Lane Jazz Festival is indeed bigger and better than ever. Two stages on Ogontz Ave. will provide three days of live jazz, R&B, classical, soul and reggae, including local acts Monkadelphia, Philadelphia Big Brass and the Philadelphia Freedom Jazz Orchestra. Exhibitors from across the country will deliver a multi-cultural mix of wares for sale, like jewelry, clothes and art. New is a Children's Day event, to go along with music workshops and a video gaming arcade. Shuttle bus service is available on Saturday and Sunday from
select locations.
Sustainable Saturdays: The West Philadelphia Local Food Series Saturday, June 18, Noon-7 p.m.Various locations, West PhiladelphiaThis
comprehensive series has it all: a farmers' market (10 a.m.-2 p.m., Clark Park), sessions on sustainable landscaping (1-2 p.m. at Chester Ave. Community Garden), foraging for edible plants (Noon-1 p.m. at University of the Sciences Lower Mill Creek Garden), creating an urban homestead (Noon-1 p.m. at 51st and Chester), and irrigating with stormwater (noon-1 p.m. at Walnut Hill Community Farm). Other highlights include an ice cream tour and tasting at Bartram's Garden and the Philly Homegrown West Philadelphia Farm to Table Trolley Tour featuring MidAtlantic Restaurant and Tap Room.
