If you reside in Greater Philadelphia, chances are you live near or have frequented a historic locale that means something to you. A new organization is helping
The Preservation Alliance locate and save them.
"Endangered City" is a challenge to local artists, architects, historians and urban explorers to express their inspiration culled from the region's rich physical history.
GEDO, a traveling gallery and Philly-based non-profit founded earlier this year, is collecting submissions in any medium through Monday, Nov. 15. The best will be featured in a show on Dec. 10 at the
Globe Dye Works in Frankford, a 3,000 square-foot industrial space. Artwork will be bid on through a silent auction and half of all proceeds benefit the Preservation Alliance, which promotes appreciation, protection and appropriate use and development of historic buildings, communities and landscapes throughout the region.
Submissions may relate to a building that is either on any of the Preservation Alliance's
Endangered Properties Lists, a historically significant building in Greater Philadelphia that has been or is soon to be demolished, or any historical buildings, neighborhoods, landscapes, details or spaces that resonate with an artist.
