Hey, Philadelphia. How you doing this week? Not so good, eh? Feeling a little cold? A little wet? A little doughy? Does your back hurt from scraping dense snow off your sidewalk for the umpteenth time? Do you find yourself having murderous dreams involving John Bolaris? Do you wake up in the morning cursing this
lousy Smarch weather?
Well, I can't do much about this brutal cold, but I can give you some things to look forward to. As the calendar clicks forward into spring (in reality if not in spirit), announcements are starting to trickle out that should make for an exceptional summer.
PHAIR, an open-air craft and food market, is moving from 23rd and Arch to Headhouse Square, making access far easier for Saturday strollers. They're kicking things off on April 5.
And Independence Mall is getting a beer garden, courtesy of chef and restaurateur Michael Schulson.
According to The Insider, he has made a deal with the owners of One South Independence Mall West, taking control of 30,000 square feet around the building for the "Independence Beer Garden"
; they hope to open July 4 and run seven months a year. Design will be courtesy of
Groundswell Design Group and food will be managed by former
Top Chef contestant Travis Masar.
Lastly, something from the rumor mill: A little bird told us that PHS will be spearheading not one, but two pop-up gardens this year. After the wild success on Broad Street (that parcel is now underdevelopment), this is truly exciting news. They're keeping things tight-lipped for now, but we'll keep you posted.
Plus, there's always the
Headhouse Square Farmers' Market,
Morgan's Pier and
Franklin Square -- start dreaming of milkshakes now.
