Flying Kite's
On the Ground program ran for a year and covered four colorful, distinct neighborhoods: Mantua, Frankford, Germantown and Camden. We took over underused spaces in those areas, creating a pop-up news desk and community gathering space. We covered exciting local stories, highlighted nascent entrepreneurs and brought attention to each area's unique character, but we also engaged with artists and designers, mounting an art show in each location.
As a coda to that work, Flying Kite is hosting
On the Ground: Four Corners, an art exhibit held in conjunction with the
Painted Bride Art Center and
Small But Mighty Arts featuring artists from our On the Ground neighborhoods. The deadline for submissions is December 9.
"Our hope is to bring together artists and residents in these designated neighborhoods to celebrate creativity and innovation," says Flying Kite Publisher Michelle Freeman. "This can serve as a catalyst for business and cultural development throughout our region, especially along its commercial corridors and across its neighborhoods."
