Daily News gossip columnist Dan Gross teased the region last week when he
wrote about a local company quietly casting Main Line women to pitch Bravo for The Real Housewives of the Main Line. While that's a great fit for the cable network's equally addicting and maddening program, there's a considerably more real (read: table-flipping) version of the show going down this week in Philadelphia.
The Real Housewives of South Philly can be experienced for one night only at
Helium Comedy Club (2031 Sansom St., Philadelphia) on Wednesday at 8 p.m. Performed by
The WaitStaff, a mainstay of Philly's comedy scene since 2003, this version of Real Housewives will be the troupe's Helium debut.
The WaitStaff, a sketch comedy troupe, did a show for the
Philly Fringe Festival earlier this year with the same title as Wednesday's Helium act. The show did so well--selling out eight of nine performances at
L'Etage (6th and Bainbridge, Philadelphia)it was performed in October at the Wilmington Delaware Fringe Festival and the following month at the
Philadelphia Sketch Comedy Festival and late last month at
World Caf Live.
According to Wait Staff member Sara Carano, the Helium show is all-new and features three Housewives sketches, a St. Patrick's Day slant, and a tribute to Philadelphia.
"In every Wait Staff show we aim for a variety of comedic themes to try and please as many people as possible, so we'll have a political sketch, an office/business sketch, as well as some topical pop culture references," says Carano.
Domenick Scudera directs and joining Carano are performers Jim Boyle, Joanne Cunningham, Gerre Garrett, Chris McGovern and Eric Singel. Tickets are available
