PIFA PICK: Kate Watson-Wallace's AUTO, Your Ride Re-Imagined

Hang out in a parking lot and you can see it all -- the frustration, anticipation, elation and confusion we experience in and around our cars as we park them, lock them, leave them and return, all the livelong day. Yeah, cars might as well be members of the family for most, even in our increasingly bike-friendly city.
Kate Watson-Wallace, of course, has her own take on them. If she's familiar to you it's because she rocked the Live Arts festival with sold-out showings of her site-based installation CAR in 2008 and her 2006 installation HOUSE was lauded by The New York Times. For the
Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, Watson-Wallace attempts to recreate the wheel(s) with
AUTO: A Dance in and Around a Moving Vehicle. Performed by Watson-Wallace herself and her interdisciplinary dance company Anonymous Bodies, the show opened over the weekend and hits full swing this week into next at the East Falls Parking Garage (3300 Henry Ave, Philadelphia).
The new show examines the bodies of performer/driver, witness/passenger, and the body of the vehicle. The show also offers rides to and from the performance space. Those interested in giving a ride in exchange for two complimentary tickets can email
here or visit
here.
Next show is Thursday, April 21. There's also a special closing performance with an after-party including deejay and drinks on April 30. $50 will get you the show and the extra-curriculars.
